Tritons Spear Tars on Saturday

Rollins fell at home to Eckerd on Saturday afternoon

WINTER PARK, Fla. (October 9, 2021) - The Rollins Tars were defeated at home on Saturday afternoon, falling to the Eckerd Tritons 3-0. The loss moves Rollins to 3-12 (0-7 SSC) on the year, while Eckerd improves to 11-5 (4-4 SSC).
  •  In the first set, Rollins held a lead of 7-6 thanks to a pair of kills each from Riley Spurlin and Milla Sherman. The Tars then got a little sloppy with their play, handing the Tritons seven of the next eight points that included two service errors, three attack errors, and a bad set. Eckerd maintained their advantage for the rest of the match, though Rollins tried a comeback with a late five-point run that brought the score within one. Eckerd reacted swiftly, and scored the last five points of the match to win 25-17.
  • The beginning of the second set belonged to the Tars as their defense at the net forced Eckerd into multiple attack errors. A monster kill by Andie Baldridge made the score 11-7 as Rollins looked prime to take a set from Eckerd. From there, the Tritons five of the next six points to tie things up at twelve. The pendulum swung back to the Tars' side as they would score seven of the next nine points, highlighted by three straight kills from Milla Sherman to take a 19-14 lead. With Rollins leading 21-16, Eckerd somehow found a way to storm back. Three straight kills made it 21-19 before Riley Spurlin got one back for the Tars to make the score 22-19. After two more Eckerd points, another Spurlin kill had the Tars up 23-21. Unfortunately, Rollins offense became rattled with four straight attack errors that gave the Tritons a 25-23 win.
  • Eckerd scored the first three points of the third set, and never allowed Rollins to get back into the third set before winning by a score of 25-15.
Milla Sherman led the Tars with eight kills. Kaylee Tutor, who earned the start, tallied eleven assists and four digs. Emma Begley was the only Tar to record multiple blocks in this one.

Next up for Rollins is game number three of their five-game home stand. They will host the Embry-Riddle Eagles on Tuesday, October 12 with first serve scheduled for 7:00 pm
