Tars Best Tritons with Overtime Winner

An Anna Todd goal would end the game early in the first extra period

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (October 2, 2021) – The Tars stayed unbeaten in Sunshine State Conference play, picking up a key road win, 2-1, in overtime over the Eckerd Tritons.  The Tars move their overall record to .500, at 4-4-0, and improve to 2-0-0 in SSC play.  The Tritons fall to 4-3-1 overall, and 2-2-0 in conference action.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Half
  • Eckerd jumped out to a lead in the first half.  Aisling Spillane put a set piece off the post and Hajar Benjoud was there to put the rebound into the Rollins net.
  • Rollins dominated most of the play in the first half but could not find an equalizer.  The Tars took eight shots against the Tritons pair, and forced Eckerd keeper in to five saves in the opening period.
Second Half
  • Rollins would knot the score just ten minutes into the second half.  Vilja Aaltonen sent a long cross into the box.  Tayla Duffy met the ball at the back post and headed it into the back of the net, making the score 1-1.
  • The final 35 minutes were played evenly with both team generating opportunities, but neither team could pull in front.
Overtime
  • Anna Todd would end the game early in the first extra period.  The junior got on the end a bouncing ball, a product of a poor clearance attempt from Eckerd, and blasted the game winner into the top of the net.
