WINTER PARK, Fla. (October 10, 2021) - All nine members of the Rollins women's tennis team participated and earned at least one win in the annual Varner Invitational held in Winter Park this weekend.
Georgina Groth and
Alexandra Borg solidified their status as one of the top doubles teams in the country by winning Flight A doubles, while sophomore
Erin Yaroshuk finished in first place for the Singles D group.

The championship for Flight A Doubles was as expected with the nationally ranked duo of Groth and Borg facing off against Nika Kozar and Zala Dovnik of Nova Southeastern University. Kozar and Dovnik captured the ITA South Regional Doubles title two weeks prior, but could not recreate their magic against the Tars. The Rollins pair won their third match of the weekend with a 6-3 win on Sunday morning. Katie Groves and
Eve Wasil also picked up a win in the first round. In Doubles B,
Natalia Collado Cordon and
Erin Yaroshuk won their first two matches before falling to Eva Goncharov and Celia Montero (Nova Southeastern) in the final, 6-3.
Maria McKay and
Polina Vlasova won two of three matches to take third place in Flight B.
Flight A Singles

Georgina Groth defeated Mathilda Vidgren in the first round, 6-1, 6-2 before falling in the second to eventual champion Natalie Espinal. She bounced back in the consolation game with a 6-3, 6-2 win against Kayla Greco.
Flight B Singles

Polina Vlasova earned a spot in the final with wins against Luisa Renovales (6-1, 6-1) and Zala Dovnik (2-6, 6-4, 10-7) before coming up just short against Diane Follin-Arbelet 0-6, 7-5, 7-10.

Kaitlynn Groves won her first match 6-2, 6-0 before dropping one to Follin-Arbelet, 3-6, 3-6.
Flight C Singles

Natalia Collado Cordon had a long one in the first round before moving past Lili Reichert 3-6, 6-3, 10-6. She then lost to Eva Goncharov, who would end up winning the flight.

Eve Wasil dropped her opening round matchup, but bounced back nicely in the consolation with a pair of wins against Reichert (6-1, 6-2) and Celia Montero (6-1, 6-4).
Flight D Singles

Erin Yaroshuk swept through the first round with a 6-0, 6-0 win against Julia Triska. She was then tested, but came out on top in a tight one versus Caitlyn Khan, 6-4, 3-6, 10-7. In the final of Flight D, Yaroshuk took down her Tar teammate
Polina Ligay by a score of 7-5, 6-1.
- Ligay defeated Eve Robinson 6-3, 6-1 and Mille Langaas 7-6 (3), 6-1 on her road to the finals.
Groth and Borg were selected as at-large competitors for the ITA National Championships to be held this Thursday through Sunday at Berry College in Rome, Georgia. The next team event for the Tars will be the Saint Leo Invitational October 29-31.
