WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 7, 2020) - For the second straight match, the Rollins women's tennis team eradicated their opponent. On Saturday, Saginaw Valley was the victim, falling 7-0 at the hands of the Tars.
Rollins swept the three doubles matches with relative ease. Alexandra Borg and Ola Durzynski recorded their fifth doubles win with a 6-4 effort against Maddie Miller and Taylor McLaughlin. In flight two, Georgina Groth and Katie Groves crusied to a 6-2 win against Joanne Gao and Sara Neves. In the third position, Marie Debruyn and Polina Vlasova took out Nicole Johnson and Gysele Gutierrez by a 6-4 score, tying them with Borg and Durzynski with a team-high five doubles wins.
The Tars swept all six singles matches:
- Ola Durzynski played out of the first position for the second straight match, and had a similar result as last time. She defeated Maddie Miller 6-4, 6-0.
- Alexandra Borg remained perfect out of set two with a 6-2, 6-4 win against Gao.
- Katie Groves fought McLaughlin in flight three, taking the match 6-3, 6-2 for her fifth overall win of the year.
- Freshman Georgina Groth continued her hot start with a convincing 6-2, 6-0 win against Gutierrez. Her six singles wins are the most on the roster.
- Marie Debruyn had to work hard, but matched her teammates with a win as well. She went three sets against Sara Neves, winning 4-6, 6-1, 10-5.
- Polina Vlasova cruised past Nicole Johnson, 6-1, 6-1 in the sixth position to complete the sweep.
Rollins moves to 5-4 on the season with the win. They will be back in action at home on Tuesday, March 10th when they welcome the Ferris State Bulldogs to Winter Park. First serve is scheduled for 4 p.m.
