WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 5, 2020) - Rollins bounced back in a big way after losing on Wednesday by sweeping the Lander Bearcats at home on Thursday afternoon, 7-0.
The Tars took two out of three matches to claim the doubles point. Georgina Groth and Katie Groves were the first to finish, winning their flight two matchup against Kylee Ramsey and Lindsey Wiggins with ease, 6-0. The Tars then locked up the point when Marie Debruyn and Polina Vlasova ousted Nelli Lius and Raquel Acco by a score of 6-4 in flight three. Lander avoided the doubles sweep by taking flight one, 7-5.
Rollins then swept their way through singles play:
- Ola Durzynski played out of position one for the first time in 2020, and came through with a hard-fought 7-6 (3), 6-4 win over Eduarda Ferreira. The win evens Durzynski's singles record to 3-3 on the year.
- Alexandra Borg saw her first action out of position two, and found success with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Polina Radchenko. It was her second win of the year.
- Katie Groves made quick work of her flight three opponent, Nelli Lius, winning 6-0, 6-2. It was the fourth wingles win of the year for the sophomore.
- Georgina Groth cruised to a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Lindsey Wiggins, giving her a team-high five wins on the season.
- Marie Debruyn locked up her fourth win of the year with a 6-2, 6-1 win against Raquel Acco out of position five.
- Freshman Polina Vlasova secured the match sweep by defeating Lucia Ric 6-0, 6-1. The win pushed her season record to 4-2.
Rollins is back to .500 on the year, sitting at 4-4. They have one more match on deck this week when they welcome Saginaw Valley to campus on Saturday, March 7. First serve is scheduled for 10 am. Stay tuned to RollinsSports.com for the latest updates.
