Short Earns Career Win 150 in Rout

WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 4, 2020) – The Tars picked up a second consecutive blow-out victory with a 19-5 win over Wilmington under the lights of Barker Family Stadium.  Rollins, who moved up to No. 9 in this week's poll, improve to 5-1 overall.  The Wildcats drop their fourth straight to sit at 1-4.

Liz Fahey and Sammy Ottimo each tallied hat-tricks to pace the Rollins attack.  Lily Rizk, Hannah Coakley, Taylor Kienle, and Hannh Ashton all registered multi-goal performances as well.  Fahey added one assist to lead Rollins in points, while Nikki Stumpf, Abigail Cawley, Marina Longo, Eden Cooke, Piper Trattner, Caroline Gastonguay, and Genia Sprinkle all tallied one helper.  Coakley forced two turnovers in the midfield, while Maggie Dougherty picked up five draw controls.  Gabby Tanner got the start in net, making four saves in one half on action, Claire Barber made three saves protecting the goal in the second period.

Taylor Lamberth led the offense for the Wildcats, scoring twice on the evening.  All of the Wilmington goals were unassisted.  Lashay Ross collected four draw controls to go with her one goal.  Tori Grubowski kept Wilmington in the contest, making 16 saves, while facing 35 shots on target.

The Tars scored the first four goals to jump out to an early lead.  The Wildcats got one back, and looked poised to cut further into the Rollins lead when the Tars picked up a yellow card.  Instead, Rollins netted a pair of shorthanded goals, Hannah Ashton converting a wide open one on one opportunity, and Liz Fahey taking the ball to the net for a score, making the score 6-1.  After Wilmington tallied a second goal, Rollins ended the half on a 7-0 run, highlighted by Ottimo's three goals.  The Tars took a 13-2 lead into the locker room.

The Wildcats came out of the break and tallied the first two before the Tars settled into the new half.  Marina Longo started the scoring, before a pair of Taylor Kienle goals capped a 4-0 run that ballooned the Tars lead to 17-4.  Wilmington would score just under the 17 minute mark, and from that point on the Tars squeezed the game away, scoring twice more late to earn the 19-5 victory.

  • This was the first ever meeting between Wilmington and Rollins.  The Tars now lead the all-time series 1-0
