BOCA RATON, FLA. (February 22, 2020) – Rollins continued its domination through the early part of its 2020 schedule, moving to 14-0 after a doubleheader, shutout sweep over Lynn.
The sixth-ranked Tars handled the Fighting Knights 5-0 in game one and 13-0 in five innings in game two. Rollins (14-0, 6-0 Sunshine State Conference) outscored Lynn 25-2 during the three game series.
One of just eight unbeaten teams in the nation, the Tars have outscored teams 82-12 on the season and boast seven shutouts.
Game 1: Rollins 5, Lynn 0
Talia Kentoffio swung the big bat for the Tars in game one, going 3-4 with an RBI and run scored. Six other players had base knocked as the Rollins line-up was strong from top to bottom.
Ashley Worrell moved to 7-0 on the year, allowing just one hit and two walks with five strikeouts in the complete game shutout.
Rollins got on the board in the top of the second as Tentoffio singled and eventually scored on a throwing error off a Tyler Jo Colby rip up the middle. Tentoffio moved the score to 2-0 in the fourth with an RBI single that scored Chelsea Peace.
Cynthia Whitty singled to short in the fifth and was brought in on a Lindsay Gehring single to give the Tars a 3-0 lead.
Rollins put the game away in the seventh with two runs as Worrell singled in Brycyn Smith and Colby knocked in Tentoffio.
Worrell then put the Fighting Knights down in order in the bottom of the seventh.
Rollins rolled up nine hits and took advantage of three Lynn errors on the day.
Game 2: Rollins 13, Lynn 0
Rollins scored 12 runs over the first two innings en route to an emphatic sweep of Lynn, winning 13-0 in five innings.
Ali Shenefield allowed just two hits and two walks while fanning nine of the 21 batters she faced.
Five players recorded multi-hit games, led by Colby going 2-4 with three RBI and a run scored. Peace hit 1-4 with a solo homer while Ashley Grimanelis batted 2-3 with three RBI behind a two-RBI double and solo homer.
Peace set the tone with a solo homer in the first and was followed by RBI hits from Colby and Whitty to put the visitors on top 3-0 early.
The Tars batted around the order in the second and totaled nine runs on six hits in the frame. All of Rollins runs came before Lynn could record an out as the inning ended with Rollins in front 12-0.
Grimanelis left no doubt of the result with a solo homer in the seventh.
Rollins is back in action February 28-29 hosting Barry in a three-game Sunshine State Conference set. First pitch for game one is set for 6 p.m. on Friday at MLK Jr. Park in Winter Park.
