BOCA RATON, Fla. (February 21, 2020) – Rollins surrendered two first inning runs, but battled back to beat Lynn on the road 7-2 Friday night. The sixth-ranked Tars moved to 12-0 on the year and 4-0 in Sunshine State Conference play.
Ali Shenefield earned the win, scattering eight hits and allowing two runs with three strikeouts. The freshman surrendered four hits in the first but settled down nicely the rest of the way.
Lindsay Gehring led the Tars hot bats, going 2-2 with an RBI and double. Chelsea Peace went 1-4, contributing two runs and a home run.
The Fighting Knights struck first with Shayle Arenson blasting a two-run homer with two outs in the first.
Rollins quickly responded with a four-run second inning. Taylor Waters ripped a bases loaded triple that plated Cynthia Whitty, Talia Kentoffio and Kara Wagstaff and pushed the Tars on top 3-2. Ashley Troutman followed with a double that scored Waters for a 4-2 Rollins lead.
Another pair of runs came with two down in the fifth as Gehring hit a ground-rule double to score Ashley Worrell. A Tentoffio base hit brought in Peace and pushed the Tars on top 6-2.
Shenefield pitched out of a bases loaded jam in the bottom of the fifth, getting Natalie Costero to fly out and end the inning.
Peace provided an insurance run in the top of the seventh with a solo homer to centerfield.
Rollins will meet Lynn (6-8, 0-4 SSC) in a double header starting at 12 p.m. in Boca Raton.
