Tars Sweep Sharks

WINTER PARK, FLA. (February 15, 2020) – Rollins kept up its hot start to the year sweeping Nova Southeastern on Saturday. The Tars defeated the Sharks 4-3 in game one of the doubleheader and then came back in game two and won 3-2 in extra innings.

Pitcher Ashley Worrell got the win in the relief win a clutch performance in the circle. She pitched in 0.2 innings, resulting in just one hit and no runs. 

Ashley Troutman batted 1-3 and scored three times. Chelsea Peace had a great day at the plate going 3-4, with a double and two RBIs. Lindsay Gehring went 2-2 at the plate with one RBI. 

The Tars scored in the bottom of the first to get the game started. Peace singled brought in Troutman. Tyler Jo Colby later grounded into a double play that allowed Worrell to score. 

Rollins went up 3-0 in the third as Gerhing hit a rocket to left field and knocked in Troutman. 

The Sharks tied it up with a run in the fifth and two in the seventh.

Peace ended the game with a solid hit to center field and Troutman to keep Rollins perfect of the year. 

Nova scored three times with seven hits, and two errors.  

Game 2 Recap: Rollins 3, Nova Southeastern 2

Rollins finished the final game of the first Sunshine State Conference series with a thriller in extra innings.  

Ashley Worrell stayed in the circle and pitched all eight innings with five strikeouts and seven hits fir her seventh win of the year. She went 1-4 at the plate to help her own cause. 

Chelsea Peace went 1-3 at the plate with a two run homerun. Lindsay Gerhing batted 1-3 with one run and one RBI. Talia Kentoffio has a 1-2 with one RBI day.  

To start the game, Peace hit a two run homerun to get the Tars up 2-0.  

After scoring one run in the second, NSU was down to its last out in the seventh. Then they tied the score with two outs on a Fernandez score.  

In the eighth, Rollins played small ball and put a runner on second with two outs. Kentoffio hit a single to center field and Brycyn Smith scored their final run to give Rollins the win.
