Three Tars Records Fall on Day One of SSC Championship

CLEARWATER, Fla. (February 13, 2020) – Connor Xu and Alex Norcini both broke school records and the 200 medley mark also fell Thursday as Rollins opened the Sunshine State Conference Championship in fifth place.

The Tars totaled 62 points on day one of the four-day event, hosted by Nova Southeastern at the Long Center in Clearwater. Rollins is 10 points clear of Florida Tech and 19 ahead of Lynn while trialing fourth-place Saint Leo by just 26. Tampa leads the way with 211 points with NSU in second (187).

Xu broke the oldest school record on the board, setting a new mark in the 1000-yard freestyle. The freshman finished sixth with a deep NCAA B cut time of 9:22.06. The Tars previous best was 9:24.14 set by All-American Kamel Tejada in 2009. Xu was seeded 17th coming into the event and shaved 23 seconds off his best time this season.

Alex Norcini broke his own school record in the 200-yard IM, finishing second with an NCAA B cut time of 1:50.45. He also had a big drop, going five seconds faster than his No. 16 seed time.

Norcini joined Dan Sulkowski, Asa Marvel and Christian Huber to finish fourth in the 200-yard medley relay, posting a school-record time of 1:30.06.

Huber finished seventh in the 50-yard freestyle, stopping the clock at 20.51 to better his NCAA B cut standard this season.
