Schall Reclaims Spot in Dugout as Assistant Coach

Previously coached at Rollins in the 80s, 90s and 00s

WINTER PARK, Fla. (October 9, 2020) - Head Coach Jon Sjogren has announced the addition of Chuck Schall to the baseball coaching staff. This will be Schall's third stint with the Tars after previously assisting the program in the mid 80's under Boyd Coffie, and at the turn of the century alongside Bob Rikeman.

"We are excited to bring Chuck back to the Tars program after all these years," remarked Sjogren. "He has shown the ability to win at multiple levels, and we think that adding him to our coaching staff will provide impressive results both on the mound and at the plate."

Schall has an extensive baseball resume in Central Florida, dating all the way back to 1981 when he began his playing career as a catcher at Flagler College. During his time as a Saint, Schall was a smooth fielding, on-base machine who ranks in the top-5 all-time at the school in walks, and earned recognition as a member of the Flagler 1980's All-Decade team. He jumped into coaching soon after, finding success at both the high school and collegiate levels.

Immediately following his playing days at Flagler, Schall joined Rollins' legendary skipper Boyd Coffie's staff as an assistant in 1986 and 1987. After spending a few years as skipper at West Orange High in Winter Garden, Schall then joined UCF in 1996 as a volunteer assistant with a focus on helping catchers. Shortly thereafter, he found his way on to the staff at Rollins once more. Schall helped the Tars win 214 games from 1997-2003.

Following a stint at Ocoee High, Schall took over the program at Olympia High in Orlando. He elevated the Titans to new heights, including a #1 national ranking in 2015 according to MaxPreps. During his time at Olympia, Schall produced dozens of college signees, including University of Florida All-American Michael Byrne and Rollins outfielder Cameron Montgomery. In addition, two players ... Nick Gordon (2014) and Juan Hillman (2015) ... were chosen in the first round of the MLB draft.

Schall has a relationship with many current Tars through his time coaching summer ball. Beginning in 2016, Schall has been a head coach in the Florida Collegiate Summer League for the past five seasons. During that stretch, his teams made the playoffs four times, appeared in three Championship series, won two titles, and he was named Coach of the Year twice in 2016 and 2019. The list of current Rollins players who played for him in the summer include Cameron Meehan, Luke Reidy, Tate Stone-Frisina, Steven Swift, Ryan Moore, James Hoelle, and Joe Cosgrove.

"I'm really glad to have the opportunity to come back and be a part of the Rollins program again," said Schall. "The coaches here have given me a warm welcome and I look forward to working with them. I have a lot of really good memories at Rollins and I'm looking forward to coaching the quality young men on this team."
