WINTER PARK, Fla. (January 18, 2020) – Rollins led by three at the break, but Eckerd rode its defense and timely shooting late to hand the Tars a 74-66 loss at home Saturday.
Jaylyn Harrison was just two off her career-high, pouring in 19 points to lead Rollins (10-7, 3-6 SSC). The senior went 5-of-6 from long range and also handed out four assists. Yari Martinez-Toro added eight points and seven rebounds with Paris Sharpe and Rachel Lia both netting seven.
Rollins shot 43 percent from the field and outrebounded Eckerd (11-4, 7-2 SSC) by six, but were hampered by an uncharacteristic 20 turnovers.
Eneritz Larranaga led the Tritons with 10 points. Abby Whiteye score 15 to go along with seven rebounds with Mikayla Kuehne also netting 15.
The Tars shot well in the first quarter, but EC took control early, putting Rollins down 19-13 after one.
Rollins outscored Eckerd 9-2 to start the second and took its first lead of the game, 22-21 on a Denise Daniels jumper midway through the frame. The Tars would go on to lead by as many as nine after a Yoke Tassent three-pointer, making the score 33-24 with 2:14 left in the half. That would be Rollins last score of the period, however, as Eckerd closed on a 6-0 run and pulled to within 33-30 at intermission.
The Tritons swung momentum back their way in the third and clamped down on the Tars offense, building a 50-41 lead with 2:17 in the third. Rollins finished the quarter strong and pulled to within 52-48 heading into the fourth.
Rollins struggled from the field to start the fourth while EC heated up as the Tars slipped into a 70-54 hole with 2:05 to play. Harrison willed the Tars back into the game, closing to within 73-66 in the waning moments but Rollins would get no closer.
