Tars Finish Strong in Win over Tech

WINTER PARK, Fla. (January 22, 2020) – Rollins held Florida Tech to just seven fourth quarter points and ran away with a 61-49 win over the Panthers on Wednesday night.  

The Tars move to 11-7 on the season and close the first half of the Sunshine State Conference schedule at 4-6. Florida Tech drops to 8-10, 4-6 SSC.

Rachel Lia led the way for the Tars with 12 points and five rebounds. Denise Daniels was shaken up early, but came back strong to post 11 points and nine rebounds. Yari Martinez-Toro hit a trio of three-pointers as part of a nine-point, five-rebound night.

The Tars held the Panthers to just 29 percent shooting while hitting 41 percent from the field. Rollins was also dominant on the glass, 49-32.

Aniquah Swan was the lone Panther to score in double figures, posting 12 points and six rebounds.

The Tars grabbed a 13-11 lead after the first and pulled away in the second and went into halftime up 35-28.

Florida Tech fought back in the third and tied the score at 37 with 6:28 in left in the quarter. A quick 5-0 run put the Tars back in control as they later headed to the fourth up 44-42.

Rollins defense shined in the fourth, holding Tech to just one bucket over the first five minutes and building a 54-44 advantage. The Panthers would get no closer than six the rest of the way as the Tars sealed the win at the free throw line.
