Tars Fall in Home Opener

WINTER PARK, Fla. (September 20, 2019) - In front of a loud and energetic crowd at their home opener, Rollins was unable to take down the Embry-Riddle Eagles, falling 3-1.

Rollins jumped out to an early lead, scoring the first two points of the match. From there, it was a battle of back and forth as the two teams traded points. After falling behind 9-6, Rollins took nine of the next ten points to gain a 15-10 advantage. Unfortunately, they couldn;t sustain the momentum as the Eagles clawed their way back into the set. The score was tied as late as 23 all, but Embry-Riddle was able to score the final two points ot claim the first set. Abby Harbinson led the attack for the Tars with five kills, while Rachel Reeve posted 14 assists, two kills and a block assist.

Set two was another close one, before Embry-Riddle was able to escape with a score of 25-22. Eight errors from the Tars proved costly as they were never able to mount the necessary comeback. Riley Spurlin notched four kills to lead the Tars.

The Tars showed their resolve in the third set, falling behind early before taking it 25-23. Rollins committed only three attack errors, and converted attacks at a .244 clip. On the flip side of things, the Eagles uncharacteristically committed ten attack errors during the set. Alexis Yeager and Harper Smith had five kills apiece, and also recorded three blocks combined.

Rollins wasn't able to build of the momentum of their win, falling in set four by a score of 25-16. Embry-Riddle proved ot be too much for the Tars to handle on the frontline as they recorded sixteen kills at a .406 percentage.

Three Tars reached double figures in kills for the night ... Alexis Yeager (12), Abby Harbinson (12), and Harper Smith (11) who also recorded ten digs for her second double-double of the season. Rachel Reeve posted another solid all-around game with five kills at .455%, 39 assists and 2 block assists. Freshman Charlie Durbin continued her solid rookie campaign with 20 digs in the match.
