Rollins Posts Shutout of Barry

WINTER PARK, Fla. (April 20, 2019) – Jimmy Robbins and Tate Stone-Frisina combined to toss a four-hit gem as Rollins shutout Barry 8-0 in the series finale Saturday.

The Tars improved to 23-16 overall and 11-10 in the Sunshine State Conference while the Bucs dropped to 26-14, 13-11 SSC.

Robbins got the start and scattered four hits with 11 strikeouts in seven and two-thirds scoreless innings. Only twice a Buccaneer reached third. After walking his first batter, Stone-Frisina sat down the next four in order to preserve the shutout.

Nick Santucci led the Tars at the plate, hitting 2-4 with a three-run homer. Jared Herron was a perfect 3-3 at the dish with a double and RBI. Cameron Montgomery was 2-3 with a run batted in and Jack Gonzalez moved his hitting streak to 18 games, going 1-3 at the plate

Andrew Rapoza led Barry, going 2-3 at the plate and teammate Richie Sobalvarro was able to reach base while going 1-4 on the day.

Frank Gonzalez took the loss, allowing seven runs in a little over five innings of work.

Luke Reidy laid down an RBI bunt that scored Sam LaFontaine and Santucci took the first pitch he saw over the right field fence to put the Tars up 4-0 in the fourth. Gonzalez made it a 5-0 game with a sac fly in the fifth.

Rollins continued the offensive onslaught with two runs in the sixth. Eddie Ayala knocked in Cameron Montgomery and Herron singled in Santucci.

Montgomery capped off the day with a single to left in the seventh, plating Cameron Meehan.

The Tars next host Florida Southern in a nonconference midweek game on Tuesday, April 23 at 6 p.m.
