Tars Erase Five-Run Deficit to Beat Florida Southern

WINTER PARK, Fla. (April 23, 2019)- After spotting Florida Southern five runs over the first three innings, Rollins came back to beat its rival Mocs 7-6 Tuesday in a nonconference match-up.

Brendan Brundage provided the game winning hit with two outs in the eighth, scoring Jack Gonzalez to get Rollins (24-16) on top.

Nick Santucci went a perfect 2-2 with two runs scored on the day, highlighted by his third homerun of the year. Brundage went 2-5 at the plate while Gonzalez hit 1-4 with a critical double that drove in two runs. The senior has now hit safely in 19 straight games.

Pitcher Cameron Enck came in to the game in the top of the eighth inning and got the win, striking out two of the three batters he faced. Whit Drennan earned the save (4) in the top of the ninth inning with one strikeout which helped him close out the game.

Christian Maglich went 2-3 at the plate with one homerun and two RBIs for the Mocs (20-19). Alex Goebel went 1-4, which included a solo homerun, and Zach Scott was 2-5 with an RBI.

Leo Rodriquez took the loss for FSC, allowing the game winning hit.

Behind back-to-back homers from Goebel and Maglich, Florida Southern scored four runs in the top of the second. Maglich knocked in Ricky Gonzalez in the third to put Rollins down 5-0.

Rollins' bats got hot in the third with four runs coming across the plate. Santucci and Jared Herron scored on a Mocs error and Gonzalez ripped a two-RBI double, scoring Sam LaFontaine and Kyle Hintz.

Santucci tied the score 5-5 with a solo homer in the fourth and Luke Reidy drew a bases loaded walk later in the frame to give Rollins a 6-5 lead.

FSC came back in the fifth and made it a 6-6 game with an unearned run.

In the eighth, Rollins put the first two on base and had runners on the corners with one out after a Gonzalez fielder's choice. He later scored on the big Brundage single to center and Drennan came on to sit the Mocs down in order in the ninth

The victory gives Rollins wins in three of its four games against Florida Southern this season.

The Tars next travel to ninth-ranked Tampa for a three game series, starting with a 6 p.m. first pitch on Friday, April 26.
