WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 22, 2019) – A pitching duel that that lasted 13 innings went Rollins way Friday as the Tars posted a 1-0 Sunshine State Conference win over Eckerd.
Jimmy Robbins earned the win in relief, throwing the final six and a third innings, allowing just one hit with 10 strikeouts. The sophomore didn't allow a runner past second base the entire night, racking up 104 pitches. Cameron Enck started for Rollins, throwing 6.2 scoreless innings with three strikeouts and allowing five hits.
The Tars (15-9, 3-4 SSC) finally broke through in the bottom of the 13th. Luke Reidy took advantage of a dropped flyball from the Eckerd centerfield to leadoff the frame. Devon Ortiz was intentionally walked and Kyle Hintz drew a four-pitch walk to load the bases. Sam LaFontaine then sent the crowd home with a deep sac fly to left, scoring pinch runner Isaiah Russell.
Cameron Meehan, Jack Gonzalez and Luke Reidy had the Tars three base hits on the night.
Eckerd (16-10, 7-6 SSC) ace Dillion McCollough threw the first nine innings, striking out nine and allowing two hits. Joey Favetta took the loss, surrendering one hit and on unearned run over the final three and a third. Chase Achuff went 2-6 to lead the Tritons bats.
Rollins and Eckerd will battle in a Sunshine State Conference doubleheader on Saturday, March 23. First pitch for game one is set for 1 p.m. at Alfond Stadium.
