Tars Bats Stymied in Opener with PBA

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (March 15, 2019) –  Rollins usually high-powered bats were held in check Friday as the Tars  lost to Palm Beach Atlantic 4-2 on the road. 

The loss puts Rollins conference record at 1-3 and 13-8 overall while PBA improves to 11-11, 2-5 SSC. 

Jared Herron went 1-4 at the plate and a RBI to lead the Tars, recording the lone base knock for Rollins. 

Cameron Enck took the loss (4-2), pitching seven innings with three strikeouts. Anthony Trovato came into the game in the eighth to allow no runs with two strikeouts. 

Riley Herold went 2-4 at the plate with one RBI for the Sailfish. Teammates Derek Schwimer, Ramon Machado, Connor Rowland all had a hit on the day.

Mitchell Carroll picked up the win, throwing 5.2 innings and only allowing two runs with six strikeouts. Orsen Josephina pitched 3.1 innings with four strikeouts.

The Sailfish scored first in the first inning then the Tars came back to tie the game in the fifth. Cameron Montgomery drew a leadoff walk and was sacrificed over to second ty Luke Reidy. After moving to second on a wild pitch, he scored off a Herron single to third.

In  the bottom of the fifth the Sailfish reclaimed the lead on a two-out, two RBI single form Machado. 

Rollins made it a 3-2 score in the sixth as Eddie Ayala worked a bases loaded walk to score Cameron Meehan. That would be it for the Tars offense as PBA added another run in the eighth to win the series opener.  

The teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday, March 16 with first pitch set for 1 p.m. at J.M. "Jake" Rubin Park in West Palm Beach, Fla.  Fan can catch the action live on the Tars Sports Network at RollinsSports.com..
