Tampa Hands Rollins SSC Loss

TAMPA, Fla. (December 7, 2019) – Visiting Sunshine State Conference preseason favorite Tampa on Saturday, Rollins couldn't match UT in the middle quarters and fell 85-60. 

Jaylyn Harrison scored 15 points to lead Rollins (6-3, 0-2 SSC). Rachel Lia added 12 points and Paris Sharpe netted nine. 

Five players scored in double figures for Tampa (4-3, 3-0 SSC), led by Melijah Sullivan's 18. Dori Nagy added 15 points and a game-high 14 rebounds. LaShayla Wright-Ponder also had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. 

Rollins shot just 36 percent from the field while UT scorched the nets for 56 percent from the floor. The Spartans also outrebounded Rollins 37-28. Tampa made a living at the free throw line, going 25-for-29 at the charity stripe; the Tars hit 8-for-12. 

The teams traded baskets to start with a Silvia Lasarte-Garcia score pulling Rollins to within 15-12 at the 1:57 mark. UT then scored the last four points of the quarter and put the Tars down 19-12 after the first 10 minutes. 

Tampa outscored Rollins 12-2 over the first five minutes of the second quarters and grabbed a 31-14 lead. 

The Tars trailed 42-25 at the half. 

UT continued to pull away in the third and the Tars fell into a 64-34 hole before heading into the fourth down 68-39. Rollins would get no closer than 25 the rest of the way.

Rollins is back in action on Saturday, December 14 with a trip to Ft. Lauderdale and clash with Nova Southeastern. Tip off is set for 2 p.m. at the Rick Case Arena. Fans can follow the action live on the Tars Sports Network at RollinsSports.com and locally on 91.5 FM WPRK.
