FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla. (December 14, 2019) – In a game that featured nine ties and eight lead changes, Rollins came up on the short end of a 66-59 decision to Nova Southeastern on Saturday.
The Tars drop to 6-4 overall and 0-3 in Sunshine State Conference play while NSU improves to 4-4, 2-1 SSC.
Senior Denise Daniels led the way for Rollins with 14 points and five rebounds. Jaylyn Harrison added 12 points and five assists while Yari Martinez-Toro netted seven.
Hailey Conley tallied 24 points and six rebounds to pace NSU. Jordan Tully, the SSC's leading scorer, posted 11 points.
The game was back and forth at the start with a four-point Rollins lead serving as the largest of the early part of the game. The Tars led 20-16 after the first quarter.
In the second, Rollins held a 26-25 advantage with five minutes to play in the half, but the Sharks got hot in the waning moments and put the Tars down 35-30 at intermission.
NSU kept up the pressure to start the second half before Rollins got hot and knotted the score at 46 on a Rachel Lia jumper. After a Sharks 3-pointer, Martinez-Toro hit at runner in the lane at the buzzer to pull Rollins to within 49-48 heading into the fourth.
The Tars twice tied the score early in the fourth, but a 6-0 NSU run got the hosts in control with 4:26 to play. Harrison drained a deep three and Tianna Rosser scored a put-back to get Rollins back to within one, 60-59 with 3:54 to play. Those would be the Tars last points, however, as the Sharks defense and clutch free throw shooting sent Rollins back to Winter Park with a loss.
Rollins shot 36 percent in the game while NSU hit 47 percent from the floor, including 10 three-pointers. Both teams had 33 rebounds.
