Rollins Wins Third McDonough Cup; Egloff Medalist

ORLANDO, Fla. (October 29, 2019) – Rollins posted a 12-shot victory and Morgan Egloff won a thrilling individual battle on Tuesday to close the 2019 Rollins College McDonough Cup. 

The Tars built a 17-shot lead heading into Tuesday's final round and posted a seven-over 295 to top the 14-team field at one-over (290-280-295) for the tournament. The event was hosted by Rollins at Rio Pinar Country Club. 

Embry-Riddle (+13) was second and Missouri-St. Louis (+18) took third. Flagler (+21) and Indianapolis (+22) rounded out the top-five. 

"What a great way to end the fall season," said Rollins head coach Kyle Frakes. "The staff at Rio was incredible and gave us an perfect backdrop for this tournament. The course was challenging, but still gave players birdie opportunities. I'm very happy for our kids to play the way they did and cap this fall season." 

Morgan Egloff edged Flagler's Mauro Baez by a stroke to earn medalist honors. The senior came into the final day in second having shot 70-70 on day one. He was bogey free on Tuesday and got to four-under after back-to-back birdies on 10 and 11. He then finished with pars the rest of the way to hold off Baez down the stretch. 

"I'm happy for Morgan and thrilled at the way he played the final holes to grab the win," added Frakes. "He went head-to-head knowing where he stood the entire way and made some great par saving shots to hold off Baez. It was a thrilling way to end the tournament." 

Nicholas Diebel tied for eighth for the Tars, posting rounds of 71-70-77 (+2). Danny Taggart was 11th at  four-over, posting rounds of 75-69-76. Will Hall finished tied for 17th after carding 74-71-77 (6) and Trystan Perkins tied for 22nd at seven-over, shooting 78-71-74. 

The Tars B team finished ninth at the 14-team event, shooting scores of 306-300-299. James Piao was the low man, tying for 25th at eight-over, posting rounds of 74-76-74. Nicholas Bessire tied for 28th at nine-over (75-73-77) and Connor Jenson tied for 32nd at 10-over (80-75-71). Louis Charpentier tied for 58th, shooting scores of 82-76-77 (+19). 

The Tars also had four individuals play and post strong finishes. Michael Pergamo tied for 39th at 12-over, firing rounds of 80-75-73. Tim Graham was also solid, tying for 69th with scores of 82-85-74. 

Carlos Riascos tied for 74th (88-75-79, +26) and Marc Holzhauer tied for 79th (81-84-85, +34). 

The McDonough Cup concludes the Tars fall season and they will be back in action Spring 2020.
