WINTER PARK, Fla. (October 26, 2019) - The Rollins women's soccer team ran their winning streak to eight games and remain undefeated in Sunshine State Conference play after defeating Tampa at home, 2-1, on Saturday evening.
Wet conditions on the field didn't stop the Tars from being aggressive early on. Senior Kathryn O'Brien, playing in front of a large family crowd for her senior spotlight game, received a pass from Meghan Mosley and put it in the back of the net in the ninth minute to give Rollins the early lead. It was O'Brien's tenth goal of the season, good for the second most in the conference.
In the 19th minute, Bailey Tran got in on the action. After collecting a pass from Molly Von Escenbach, followed by a bit of fancy footwork, Tran was able to beat Tampa's Lovisa Camel to give Rollins a 2-0 advantage. The goal was the freshmans fourth of the season.
Tampa made things interesting with a goal of their own off the foot of Moeko Morse in the 29th minute. That would be the end of the scoring for both sides, however. With the one goal lead, Rollins focused more on the defensive side of the ball and didn't allow the Spartans to tie it up.
Rollins attempted 11 shots in the first half and seven in the second while Tampa took eight and five, respectively. Elena Beasley recorded two saves on the night, including a nice stop on a blast from Jalyssa Richardson.
With the win, the Tars move to 11-2 on the season, and 8-0 in SSC play. Tampa falls to 4-7-1, (4-3-1 SSC). Next up for Rollins is the final regular season home game of the season on Wednesday, October 30th when Barry University comes to Winter Park. Rollins will honor the six seniors on the roster before the game, which begins at 7:00 pm.
