Rollins Unable to Swashbuckle Bucs in Road Battle
Miami Shores, Fla. (September 28, 2018) – Despite a hard-fought third set, the Rollins volleyball team struggled against Sunshine State Conference foe Barry University on Friday night in the Health and Wellness Center, falling to the Bucs by a final score of 3-0 (13-25, 12-15, 21-25). The loss drops the Tars to a mark of 3-11, and 1-6 in SSC play, while Barry advances to 14-1, and 6-1 in SSC action.
Rollins was led by junior Madison Jenkins with eight kills on the night, while senior Rachel Fletcher earned seven of her own. Freshman Rebecca Kuehn earned 24 assists to lead the team, while Fletcher amassed a team best 12 digs. Kerra Tirado and Jenkins led the Tars with two blocks apiece. Alondra Rodriguez led the team with two aces on the evening.
Barry saw a match high 19 kills from Kristina Filimonova, who hit .621 on the night with a kill percentage of .655. Bianca Pasca earned a team best 33 assists, while Audren Rose led the team with two aces. Rose notched a team best 14 digs followed by Megi Buvinic and Pasca with 10 apiece. Anastasii Samokhval led the match with five total blocks, all of which were assisted.
NOTES:
- Rollins and Barry have matched up 63 times in program history, with the Bucs leading the all-time series, 26-37.
- The last time the Tars defeated the Bucs, Rollins trailed by two sets but came from behind to take down Barry by a final score of 3-2 (23-25, 23-25, 25-22, 25-23, 25-13) on November 11, 2017 in Warden Arena. The win marked the second straight season the Tars earned a five-set victory over the Bucs in Warden Arena.
