Schlesman Leads with 10 Kills on the Night
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (September 21, 2018) – Senior Sam Schlesman led the Tars in scoring with 10 kills on the night as the Rollins volleyball team found themselves unable to thwart the Nova Southeastern University Sharks in a Friday night conference tilt. The 3-0 (13-25, 22-25, 20-25) loss drops Rollins to a record of 3-9, and 1-4 in Sunshine State Conference action, while the Sharks snap a five game losing streak and earn their first conference win of the season to advance to 3-10 and 1-5 in the SSC.
Behind Schlesman's 10 kills, fellow senior Kerra Tirado earned six, while Leslie Seda, Madison Jenkins, and Candace Doxey tallied five apiece. Freshman Rebecca Kuehn amassed a team high 23 assists, while both Jessika Linnemeyer and Rachel Fletcher earned an ace apiece on the evening. Fletcher led the team in digs with 10, while Seda, Linnemeyer and Kuehn dug out five each. Both Schlesman and Jenkins earned one assisted block apiece on the night.
Nova Southeastern saw a match high 12 kills from Denvyr Tyler-Palmer, followed by 10 from Gabby Bauch. Caylee Cox and Samantha Blasko shared the wealth handing out assists, with Cox earning 18 and Blasko notching 16. The Sharks earned three aces on the night as a team, with three coming from Megan Burns. Both Samantha Blasko and Burns amassed 12 digs on the night. NSU put up nine blocks as a team, led by Leslie Atherton with three block-assists, and Amanda Pultorak, Tyler-Palmer, and Kim Blasko with two apiece. Pultorak earned the match's lone solo block on the day.
NOTES:
- NSU bested the Tars in hitting on the night, out-hitting Rollins .385 to .143 in set one, .265 to .146 in set two, and .389 to .212 in set three.
- Rollins leads the all-time series against the Sharks, 24-15.
- Last time out against Nova Southeastern, the Tars fell in straight sets (26-28, 18-25, 20-25) on November 10, 2017 in Warden Arena.
- The Sharks picked up their first SSC victory of 2018, and snapped a five match losing streak.
- The Tars are currently 0-2 on the season when playing true road matches.
