WINTER PARK, Fla. (September 19 2018) – Rollins opened Sunshine State Conference play with a 2-1 victory over Florida Southern. The Tars improve to 3-0-3 on the year, remaining unbeaten, while they go to 1-0-0 in the SSC. Florida Southern falls to 2-5-1 overall, and 0-2-0 in conference play.
Kiera McMeekan and Sarah Buckley both tallied for Rollins. Kaitlin Snyder earned an assist on the evening. Kelly Rowswell saw the full 90 minutes in goal, surrendering just a penalty shot from the Mocs Anna Griessler. Tori Routt made five saves in goal for Florida Southern.
Rollins jumped on top early, scoring in the second minute, when a screaming shot from McMeekan from 40 yards out skipped over Routt and into the net. Buckley doubled the Tars advantage in the 40th minute, gathering a headed pass from Snyder and rocketing the ball over the Mocs' keeper and into the back of the net. Florida Southern would pull a goal back at the beginning of the second half when Griessler converted the penalty kick, putting it in a top corner. The Mocs generated a number of second half chances, but the Rollins defense was always there with a vital last second tackle, as Rollins saw out the final 40 minutes in the defensive half.
The Tars return to action Saturday, September 22, when they travel to No. 6 Barry. Kickoff against the Bucs is scheduled for 6 p.m.
