TAMPA, Fla. (April 12, 2018) – Rollins captured a key Sunshine State Conference victory, upending the No. 32 Tampa Spartans by a score of 6-3. The No. 21 Tars improve to 13-7 on the year, and 6-3 in SSC action. The Spartans fall to 10-8 overall, while dropping to 4-6 in conference play.
Rollins fell behind early, winning just one of the three doubles matches. Teresa Kaiser and Katie Dyson got Rollins on the scoreboard, picking up an 8-6 win on the second doubles court. The pair are now 9-4 on the year.
The Tars would take five of the six singles matches, to storm back and take the overall victory. Tampa would pick up the first singles win, before Rollins reeled off five consecutive wins. Dyson picked up her second win of the day to get the Tars run started; the sophomore tallied a 6-1, 6-2 win the second spot. Senior Fabiana Vitanza would pull the score even at 3-3 with a 6-3, 6-3 win in the top position. Kaiser put the Tars in front with a 7-5, 6-1, sixth court win. Alexandra Borg clinched the match with a three set victory in the third spot. The sophomore recovered from a first set defeat, sailing home in the final two sets for a 1-6, 6-2, 6-1 win. Savanna Fuller would take the final match, also in three sets, picking up a 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 decision.
Rollins will finish their regular season at home against the No. 4 Lynn Fighting Knights. First serve between Rollins and Lynn is set for 10 a.m.
