WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 9, 2018) – The Tars controlled play from the beginning, Friday evening, easing their way to 9-0 victory over Stonehill, as the Tars head into Spring Break. Rollins improves to 6-4 on the year, while the Skyhawks fall to 14-3.
Rollins started the match with a trio of dominating doubles performances. Fabiana Vitanza and Alexandra Borg picked up their fourth doubles win of the year in the top position, 8-1. Teresa Kaiser and Katie Dyson teamed up for the third time, and move to 3-0 as a partnership, also winning 8-1, on the second court. Savanna Fuller and Marie Debruyn completed the sweep with an 8-4 victory in the third spot.
Debruyn would be the first Tar to capture a singles win, as the sophomore won her sixth position match 6-2, 6-0. Carly Goldman captured the decisive match for Rollins. The junior gave the Tars a 5-0 lead with a 6-1, 6-0 win in the fourth spot. Rollins would continue to pour it on with Fuller taking a 6-2, 6-1 decision in the fifth spot, and Dyson taking the match on court three 6-2, 6-0. The top two courts would complete the shutout with Vitanza winning in the top position 6-3, 6-3, and Alexandra Borg taking a straight set match on the second court, 6-4, 6-3.
The Tars will head to Las Vegas for their next three matches. Rollins starts the trip by facing Hawaii Hilo on Sunday, March 11, at 2:30 p.m. They will then face a pair of ranked opponents, No. 12 Midwestern State, and No. 7 St. Mary's (Texas), to close out the visit.
