Tars Tally First Victory of 2018

Rollins – 6
Gustavus Adolphus – 3

WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 9, 2018) – The Tars got in the win column for the first time this campaign, with a 6-3 victory over Division III Gustavus Adolphus.  The Tars improve to 1-1 on the year, while the Golden Gusties fall to 0-2 on their season opening Florida swing.

The Tars win started with some convincing doubles performances.  Alexandra Borg and Savanna Fuller teamed up for the first time to post an 8-4 victory in the first position.  Teresa Kaiser and Marie Debruyn tallied their partnership's first win of the year with a dominating, 8-2, win out of the second spot.

Borg continued her winning ways in the top singles spot, easily dispatching the No. 5 player in Division III, Briana Hartmann, 6-1, 6-1.  Carlye Goldman battled for a three set victory, the junior won the first set convincingly, then took the third set 11-9 to secure the win.  Debruyn tallied her second win in as many tries with a 6-0, 6-1 victory in the fifth spot.  Freshman Lauren Lepore picked up her first win in the Blue and Gold, cruising past Lauyra Martin 6-0, 6-2 in the sixth position.

The Tars must quickly shift their attentions, with a vital stretch of games next week.  Rollins faces No. 6 Flagler on Thursday, February 15, before opening Sunshine State Conference play at Palm Beach Atlantic and No. 2 Barry on February 17 and 18.
