WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 9, 2018) – The Tars got in the win column for the first time this campaign, with a 6-3 victory over Division III Gustavus Adolphus. The Tars improve to 1-1 on the year, while the Golden Gusties fall to 0-2 on their season opening Florida swing.
The Tars win started with some convincing doubles performances. Alexandra Borg and Savanna Fuller teamed up for the first time to post an 8-4 victory in the first position. Teresa Kaiser and Marie Debruyn tallied their partnership's first win of the year with a dominating, 8-2, win out of the second spot.
Borg continued her winning ways in the top singles spot, easily dispatching the No. 5 player in Division III, Briana Hartmann, 6-1, 6-1. Carlye Goldman battled for a three set victory, the junior won the first set convincingly, then took the third set 11-9 to secure the win. Debruyn tallied her second win in as many tries with a 6-0, 6-1 victory in the fifth spot. Freshman Lauren Lepore picked up her first win in the Blue and Gold, cruising past Lauyra Martin 6-0, 6-2 in the sixth position.
The Tars must quickly shift their attentions, with a vital stretch of games next week. Rollins faces No. 6 Flagler on Thursday, February 15, before opening Sunshine State Conference play at Palm Beach Atlantic and No. 2 Barry on February 17 and 18.
