WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 7, 2018) – Rollins battled Sunshine State Conference leader Florida Southern for the entire 40 minutes but came up short, falling 78-69 Wednesday night.
The Tars fall to 11-11 overall and 6-10 in SSC play while 20th-ranked Southern runs its winning streak to 12 and improved to 19-3 overall, 14-2 SSC.
Jaylyn Harrison led 10 Tars in the scoring column with 15 points and handed out five assists. Julia Inlger added 11 points and Rachel Jablonski was 3-of-3 from beyond the arc for nine points.
Camille Giardina led FSC with 28 points while Jensen Blassage and Mercedez Claybrone both scored 15. Anja Fuchs-Robetin recorded a triple-double with 13 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists while playing all 40 minutes.
Rollins shot 9-of-12 in the fourth quarter and ended the night 28-of-59 (48 percent) from the field. The Tars hit 10-of-18 from beyond the arc. FSC was equally as impressive in the fourth, shooting 7-of-10 and knocked down 27-51 (53 percent) overall. The Tars outrebounded the Mocs 32-28 on the night.
Ingler hit from deep to open scoring but the Tars offense was slow to get rolling as Rollins fell into a 25-16 hole after the first 10 minutes.
A 6-0 run in the second got the Tars to within 27-22 with seven minutes left in the half. Southern answered with six-straight points and later took a 42-33 lead into the break.
After again falling into an 11-point hole, Rollins came fighting back and cut the Southern lead to 50-46 on back-to-back Harrison three-pointers with 3:32 left in the period. The Mocs the outscored the Tars 7-3 the rest of the frame to put Rollins down 57-49 heading into the fourth.
Jumpers by Denise Daniels and Vernisha Andrews to start the fourth closed FSC's lead to 57-53 with 9:23 to play. The Mocs came back with an 11-2 run over the next four minutes to take a 68-55 lead at the 5:53 mark. Rollins got to within eight with under a minute to play but would get no closer and took a third-straight loss.
