No. 2 Barry Too Much for Tars

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. (February 18, 2018) – Rollins could not cap off a busy week of action with an upset over defending National Champions, Barry.  The No. 2 Bucs proved too much for the Tars, as Rollins fell 9-0.  The Tars move to 4-2 on the year, 1-1 in the Sunshine State Conference, while Barry improves to 6-0, 3-0 in the SSC. 

Barry's No. 14 doubles pair of Sonja Larsen and Verena Schmid captured the first set victory for the Bucs.  Savanna Fuller and Carlye Goldman battled for Rollins, but fell 8-3 in the second position. 

Fabiana Vitanza battled Larsen, the top ranked singles player in the country, in the number one spot, but fell 6-0, 6-3.  Goldman battled Schmid in the third spot, but was unable to overcome the No. 42 singles player nationally it what was the clinching match.  Alexandra Borg was locked in a tight second set in the second position, but was forced to retire before completing the match. 

Rollins will stay away from Winter Park for a contest in Melbourne against SSC foe Florida Tech.  First serve between the Tars and the Panthers is set for Tuesday, February 20, at 1 p.m.
