Rollins Swept by FIT in Mid-Week Tilt
MELBOURNE, Fla. (October 2, 2018) – Facing the Florida Tech Panthers for the second time this season, the Rollins volleyball team was unable to sweep the season series against the Panthers, falling by a final score of 3-0 (26-28, 10-25, 20-25) on Tuesday evening in the Clemente Center.
The loss drops the Tars to a record of 3-13 and 1-8 in SSC action, while the Panthers advance to 5-12 overall and 2-7 against conference opponents.
The Tars saw a team best eight kills from senior Kerra Tirado, followed closely by senior Sam Schlesman with seven. Schlesman tallied a kill percentage of .357 on the evening, while Tirado earned a kill percentage of .263. Sarah Konemann earned 16 of the Tars' 17 assists on the evening. Off the serve, sophomore Alondra Rodriguez earned a team best two aces. Senior Rachel Fletcher led the team in digs with 13, while Leslie Seda earned seven and Marlee Johnson earned six. The Tars put up nine blocks as a team, including two solo blocks apiece from Schlesman and Doxey. Doxey led the team in total blocks on the night with three, followed by Tirado with two assisted blocks on the day.
The Panthers saw a match high 14 kills from Kelly Germain, who amassed a kill percentage of .417 on the day. Kiersten Rosa tallied a team best 27 assists, while both Kyra Atkinson, Heather Bowersox, and Rosa notched two aces apiece. Bower led the team in digs with 13, followed by Rosa and Bowersox with three apiece. The Panthers put up 11 total blocks, including three solo blocks from Olivia Hersey, while Bowersox earned three assisted stops on the day. Hersey added three assisted blocks for a total of six on the day to lead the match.
NOTES:
- Last time out against the Panthers, Rollins earned a 3-1 (25-22, 19-25, 25-21, 28-26) win in Warden Arena back on Saturday, September 8, 2018. In that match, Rachel Fletcher earned her first double-double of the season with a new career high of 20 kills and matching a career best in digs with 24.
- Rollins holds onto an 18-8 advantage over the Panthers in the all-time program series.
- The last time Rollins took on the Panthers in the Clemente Center, the Tars fell by a final score of 3-0 (19-25, 15-25, 19-25) on Tuesday, October 24, 2017.
- Tuesday night's match marked the second time the two teams have matched up on the court this season.
