VICTORY! Tars Snap Streak With Sweep Over Auburn Montgomery

Rollins Takes Down Warhawks in Straight Sets


ORLANDO, Fla. (October 19, 2018) –  After suffering 33 straight sets without a win, the Rollins volleyball team bounced back with a sweep over the Auburn University at Montgomery Warkhawks on Friday afternoon at the opening day of the 2018 South Region Crossover held at the Orlando Sports Center.  The 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-14) victory marks the first sweep of the season for Rollins, and advances their record to 4-17 on the season, while AUM drops to 9-15 overall.

The Tars earned 37 kills as a team, besting their opponent's 31.  Leading the way was Leslie Seda with a match high 13 kills, while Candace Doxey earned eight, and Kerra Tirado and Madison Jenkins totaled six and five, respectively.  Seda hit .400 on the day, and added eight digs, one ace, and one block assist.  Rebecca Kuehn handed out a match best 31 assists.  Off the serve, Alondra Rodriguez, Rachel Fletcher, and Kuehn all earned two aces.  Fletcher notched a match best 13 digs, followed by Seda's eight, and Kuehn and Rodriguez with seven apiece.  The Tars put up 13 total blocks as a team, led by Doxey and Tirado with six each.  Doxey earned the game's lone solo block and added five block assists, while Tirado amassed six block assists of her own.

The Warhawks saw a team high eight kills from Brianna Garvin, while Alexandria Henry tallied seven.  Carly Smart dished out 20 of AUM's 27 assists on the day, while Smart recorded a team best two service aces and 10 digs.  Auburn Montgomery earned 12 blocks as a team with Garvin leading the way with her four block assists, followed by Henry with three of her own.

NOTES:

  • Friday's matchup marked the first time Rollins and Auburn Montgomery have met in program history.
  • Rollins snapped an 11 match and 33 set losing streak, and posted their first sweep of the season.
  • The score was tied 17 times, including 15 times in the second set, and saw the lead change hands on 10 occasions, including eight in Set 2.
