WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (May 6, 2017) - Chris
Corbett knocked in a pair on a double in the eighth which proved to
be the game winning hit as Rollins came from behind to beat Palm
Beach Atlantic 5-4 on Saturday night.
The Tars improve to 26-19 and grab the series opener against PBA
(25-22).
Peter
Nicoletto led the Tars at the plate, going 3-3 with two runs
scored and an RBI. Corbett was 1-4 on the night with two runs
batted in while Mike
Purcell hit 1-3 with an RBI.
Peter Rivera (2-4) Eddie Vicinanza (2-4) led the 'Fish
offensively with Vincinanza also knocking in a run.
James
Doherty picked up the win in relief, throwing the seventh
inning and allowing no runs on two hits. Caleb
Jakes got the save, sitting PBA down in order in the eighth and
ninth while striking out four. Brad
Case was the Tars starter, scattering eight hits and four runs
with eight strikeouts.
Josh Turner started for PBA, surrendering five hits and three
runs over the first seven innings. Kyle Polaski took the loss after
allowing two runs on two hits in the Tars eighth.
Rollins took control early as Grant
Ashline led off the second with a single and was later brought
home on a Mike
Dolan sac fly. PBA tied the game 1-1 in the third behind a
Vicinanza leadoff triple and Noah Johnson RBI.
The Tars fell into a 2-1 hole after PBA plated one in the fifth,
but got it back in the top of the sixth on a Nicoletto single,
stolen base and run off a Purcell RBI single.
PBA had three singles to start the sixth to score one and chase
the Tars starter Case. Whit
Drennan came in and drilled the next two batters to give PBA a
4-2 advantage heading into the late innings.
In the Tars eighth, Sam
LaFontaine started with a singled and was backed up with an Isaiah
Russell base knock. Nicoletto dropped an infield, RBI single to
get the Tars to within one. Corbett then put the Tars on top with a
laser down the leftfield line for a pair of RBIs and 5-4 Tars
lead.
Jakes then came in and took care of business on the hill,
sitting the next six Sailfish down in order for the two-inning
save.
The two teams will close the series and PBA's season on Sunday,
May, 7 with a doubleheader starting at Noon in West Palm Beach.
