MELBOURNE, Fla. (March 6, 2017) - Freshman Sarah
Piening has been named Sunshine State Conference Pitcher of the
Week, it was announced Monday. This is the firs conference award
for the Old Tappan, New Jersey product.
Piening played a vital role in the Tars sweep of SSC rival
Florida Southern over the weekend. She came in as a reliever in
the first inning of game one settle the Tars down. The freshman
finished the contest with 7.0 innings pitched, surrendering just
four hits and one run while striking out three Mocs, picking up the
win. Piening then started game three, pitching 6.1 inning, giving
up only two earned runs and fanning five. The Immaculate
Conception graduate currently ranks third in the SC with eight
wins.
The Tars are in the midst of a busy week. Rollins hosts Lander
tomorrow, before taking on Mount Olive on Thursday, and American
International on Friday, all in double-header action.
