WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 13, 2017) - The Tars
fell to their third Division I opponent of the year, dropping their
contest against the New Jersey Institute of Technology Highlanders
by a score of 5-2. The loss drops the Tars' record to 5-5 on the
year, while NJIT improves to 5-5 in their 2017 campaign.
Playing by Division I rules, the Highlanders got one point after
take two of the three doubles matches. The Tars won out of the
second position, Patrick
Sell and Cody
Gubin taking a 6-3 decision over Lukas Zvikas and Zac
Castagna. However, it was not enough to get the Tars the
point.
Francesco
Racanelli captured a win for the Tars in the first position,
besting Zvikas 6-3 in the first set, then winning a second set
tiebreak by a score of 7-3. Billy
Boyle registered a win in his first match as a Tar, taking
George Svensson to a first set tiebreak, before the Highlander was
forced to retire, with the score tied 2-2 in the second.
The Tars return to the court tomorrow, Tuesday, March 14, when
they will face off against the Big Blues of No. 41 Bluefield
State. First serve is set to take place at 2 p.m.
