WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 24, 2017) - Tars
ace, Brad
Case had another fantastic outing as he earned his fourth win
on the season, as Rollins defeats SSC provisional member
Embry-Riddle by a score of 11-2. Rollins improves to 8-2 on young
2017 campaign, while Embry-Riddle falls to 3-8 overall.
Case, a sophomore RHP from Pelham, N.Y. struck out nine Eagles in
the night, making it difficult for Embry-Riddle to get anything
going on offense. Case threw seven full innings, walked no batters
and only tallied one earned run on four hits.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Embry-Riddle jumped on Case early in the game, the Eagles took
1-0 lead in the top of the first after pair of hits and a sac fly
off the bat of Jonathan Camp. Case would later settle in, not
allowing another earned run after the first inning. Rollins
answered in their half of the first, thanks to an early throwing
error followed by a RBI single by senior captain, Christopher
Corbett.
In the second inning, the Tars continue to apply pressure on the
Eagles. Mike
Dolan slugged his first HR of the season, a towering two-run
shot to left field, putting Rollins on top, 3-1. The Tars scored
once more in the inning as Mike
Purcell singled in another run.
Embry-Riddle showed some life in the top of the third, scoring
once to pull within one run thanks to an Eagles double and a
fielding error. However, Rollins kept their foot on the gas in the
third inning, earning three more runs thanks to some patience at
the plate and a good piece of hitting by Grant
Ashline to earn an RBI single.
Heading into the fourth inning, Rollins had a 7-2 lead but the
Tars wanted more. Peter
Nicoletto led the way with a single to start the inning,
followed by a pair of walks. In total, the Tars had three hits,
three walks, a pair of stolen bases and ended up scoring four runs.
Rollins would ride the 11-2 lead to the end of the game, thanks to
lights out pitching by Brad
Case and a stellar 2017 debut for LHP Whit
Drennan.
