WINTER PARK, Fla. (February 17, 2017) - Another
stellar outing on the mound by sophomore starting pitcher Brad
Case, coupled with timely hitting from the Rollins offense led the
Tars to their fifth victory of the season, defeating Bentley 7-0.
With the win, Rollins moves to 5-2 on the season, and Bentley drops
to 0-4 in their young campaign.
In his 7.0 innings of work, Brad Case punched-out six of the
opposing batters, and only walked three. At the plate, Peter
Nicoletto led the way for the Tars earning three hits and driving
in three RBI. Sophomore Isaiah Russell was also hard to get out,
going 3-4 in the game, all singles.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
Mike Purcell and Christopher Corbett both singled in the bottom
of the first inning, setting the table for centerfielder, Peter
Nicoletto. The centerfielder hit the first pitch he saw, driving
the ball over the Bentley leftfielder, earning two RBI and his
second triple this year.
Junior infielder, Grant Ashline slugged his first homer of the
season in the bottom of the third inning, extending the Tars lead
3-0 over the Bentley Falcons. The Rollins bats remained quiet until
the sixth inning, where the Tars were able to combine for four hits
and tally two more runs. The inning was led off by a Peter
Nicoletto double, followed by a Philip Burket RBI single. Burket
was driven in by Isaiah Ruessell, giving Rollins the 5-0 lead.
The Tars never let up, scoring in the next two innings. Purcell
led off the seventh inning with a gap shot for a double, and
Nicoletto drove in the insurance run with his third hit of the
game. Rollins extended their lead in the following inning with a
lead off single by Russell, and Christopher Corbett later drove him
in with a sacrifice fly to left field.
