WINTER PARK, Fla. (November 6, 2017) – Rollins welcomed the Costa Rican Women's National Team to Winter Park for its final exhibition of the season and came away with a 70-48 win on Monday.
The Tars were paced by Vernisha Andrews with 14 points, nine rebounds, six steals and four assists. The junior was 5-of-10 from the field and a perfect 4-for-4 at the free throw line.
Julia Ingler added 10 points while Jasmine Stone netted eight.
Gabriela Alavarado led the Costa Ricans with 12 points. Natalia Galvez chipped in eight.
The Tars defense forced 27 turnovers and held the visitors to 40 percent shooting. Rollins also dominated the glass with a 49-25 edge in rebounding.
After a slow start, Rollins built a 17-9 lead after one, but couldn't shake Costa Rica in the second and held just a 34-29 lead at the break. The Tars then posted another 17-9 advantage in the third quarter and were able to cruise to their third-straight win in the preseason.
Rollins begins is regular season on Saturday, November 11 in Melbourne, meeting Thomas University. Tipoff is slated for 12 p.m. at the Clemente Center.
