Rollins Makes Easy Work of Thomas in Opener

MELBOURNE, Fla. (November 11, 2017) – Rollins got its much-anticipated season underway Saturday, beating Thomas University 94-44 in Melbourne. 

The 17th-ranked Tars (1-0) had 12 different players score, led by 15 points and five rebounds from Denise Daniels. The sophomore shot 7-of-8 from the field and also handed out two assists. Jaylyn Harrison added 13 points and four rebounds while Julia Ingler netted 12 off the bench. Jasmine Stone's 11 points gave Rollins four players scoring in double figures. 

Kriza Allen led Thomas (1-1) with 13 points. 

Rollins shot 56 percent for the game and held the Night Hawks to just 31 percent, including just 2-of-8 from distance. Led by Carly McLendon's 10 and Tianna Rosser's eight rebounds, Rollins dominated the glass 38-21. 

Rollins led 28-12 after the first and shot 67 percent in the second to take a 57-26 lead into the locker room. 

The offensive onslaught continued into the second as the hot-shooting Tars hit for 60 percent from the field, outscoring Thomas 22-10 and grabbing a 79-36 advantage heading into the fourth. The defense stepped up in the final frame, allowing just eight TU points to post the lopsided win.

Rollins jumps right into Sunshine State Conference play on Wednesday, November 15 hosting Florida Tech. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m. in Warden Arena. Fans can watch the action live on the new Tars Sports Network at RollinsSports.com.
