Tars Slashed by Sharks in Straight Sets

Rollins and Nova Southeastern Split the Season Series


WINTER PARK, Fla. (November 10, 2017) – The Tars took to the court in Warden Arena for the second to last time this season on Friday night, squaring up against Nova Southeastern in Sunshine State Conference action.  Despite the Tars' best efforts, the Sharks walked away with a 3-0 (26-28, 18-25, 20-25) victory, evening the season series with the Rollins at 1-1.

The loss drops Rollins to a record of 8-17 overall, and 5-13 in Sunshine State Conference play.  Nova Southeastern advances to a mark of 6-18 overall, and 4-13 in SSC action.

Rollins was led by Shannon McDonough with 15 kills on the night, followed by seven apiece from Madison Jenkins and Rachel Fletcher.  Kerra Tirado amassed five kills on the day, and led the Tars in blocks with four, including earning the team's lone solo block of the match.  Cassidy Cason turned out a match best 30 assists, earning a setting percentage of .316.  Rebecca Wilson led the team in digs with 14, followed by Fletcher with 11.

The Sharks saw a match best 16 kills from Denvyr Tyler-Palmer, followed by Kim Blasko with 10.  Samantha Blasko dished out a team best 28 assists, with a setting percentage of .359 on the day.  Kaelyn Brock turned out a match best four service aces, earning four of the Sharks' seven total.  Megan Burns earned a match best 20 digs, followed by Brock with 17.  At the net, Maddie Uilk posted four total blocks, including a match best two solo stops.

"A lot of credit goes to Nova tonight. They played aggressively and relentlessly all night, and we just were never able to find our rhythm. We look forward to having one more opportunity on our home floor tomorrow night."

NOTES:

  • Rollins leads the all-time series against the Sharks, 24-14.
  • Last time out against Nova Southeastern, Rollins picked up a 3-0 (25-20, 28-26, 25-21) sweep in Rick Case Arena on October 7, 2017.
  • McDonough earned her 22nd game of the season with double-digit kills.
  • The score was tied on 31 occasions throughout the match, including 16 times in the first set.
  • The match saw a total of 14 lead changes, including six in the first set.
