WINTER PARK, Fla. (October 14, 2017) – The Tars came out of the gates looking to upset undefeated No. 5 Flagler College. It was Rollins who applied the pressure at the beginning of the game, but a pair of goals by sophomore Charlene Nowotny for the Saints, lifted Flagler over the Tars, 2-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
First Half: Rollins started the game on the offensive, trying to net an early goal over the Saints. The Tars would earn eight first half corner kicks, and their best chance of the half came when Jill Richards served the ball in off of a corner, finding a rising Kiera McMeekan in the box, however McMeekan's header would go just wide and into the side netting. It was the Saints who would tally the game's opening goal in the 35th minute off of a counter attack that started with a Rollins corner kick. Rowswell would record four saves in the half to keep the Tars deficit to only one. The Tars would not be able to capitalize on four first half shots, and headed into the locker room down, 1-0 at the half.
Second Half: Rollins would have to push numbers forward, as they searched for the tying goal. Flagler was able to take advantage off of a Tars missed clearance, and Nowotny was able to register her second goal of the game in the 54th minute. The Tars then turned to an all-out attack and created a couple of half chances, but ultimately the Saints would wrap up the game with a win over the Tars, 2-0.
NOTES:
- Chynna McGirt ranks 4th overall in the conference with 33 shots taken
- Rollins still leads the all-time series against the Saints, 10-5-3
- Rowswell sits in 2nd place in the SSC in saves, and 4th in save percentage
