HOOVER, Ala. (October 13, 2017) – Led by Kerra Tirado's seven blocks, including two solo stops, the Rollins volleyball team rolled to a 3-1 (25-22, 25-20, 19-25, 26-24) victory over the University of Alabama-Huntsville Chargers to open the 2017 South Region Crossover. The victory moves the Tars to a record of 6-8 on the season, while the Chargers drop to a mark of 15-8 overall.
Tirado's seven blocks marks a season second best for the junior as Rollins posted up a total of 25 blocks on the day, including five solo blocks. Sam Schlesman joined the block part with five of her own, while Cassidy Cason and Shannon McDonough put up four apiece. Bri Civiero and McDonough led the team in kills with 15 and 14, respectively. Tirado added nine kills, while freshman Leslie Seda contributed seven. Cason earned 47 of the Tars' 58 assists, while Rachel Fletcher led the team in digs with 13. McDonough and Cason were close behind with 12 and 10 digs, respectively.
Alabama-Huntsville saw a match best 19 kills from Anna Claire Johnson, followed by 16 kills by Anna LeDuc. Kristen Giles dished out 49 assists, and added 13 digs, while Haley Hop led the team in digs with 21. The Chargers put up 12 blocks as a team, led by Caroline Sanford with three.
NOTES:
- Rollins is now 6-0 in the all-time series against Alabama-Huntsville.
- Civiero notched her 13th match with double-digit kills, including her eighth straight.
- McDonough notched her 12th match with double-digit kills, and has posted 11 straight with double-digit kill counts.
- McDonough's double-double marks her eighth straight, and 10th overall on the season.
- Cassidy Cason earned her sixth double-double of her sophomore campaign.
