LAKELAND, Fla. (September 10, 2016) - Juniors
Shannon
McDonough and Bri
Civiero notched new career highs helping the Rollins volleyball
team open up day two of the FSC/Terrance Hotel Classic with a win.
The Tars earned their fourth consecutive win as they took down LIU
Post in a hard-fought five-setter, 3-2 (20-25, 25-19, 18-25, 25-19,
15-8). With the victory, Rollins advances to a record of 4-2,
while the Pioneers drop to 2-3 on the season.
McDonough led the Tars in total attacks and kills, notching new
career highs in both as she tallied 65 total attacks and 26 kills.
The Orlando, Fla. native also matched career highs in digs with 14,
and service aces with two, while posting her second-straight
double-double.
LIU Post was led by Danielle Valenza, who notched a team high 17
kills on 45 attempts. Giulia Genna dished out a team best 35
assists, while Indira Rojas amassed a squad high 23 digs. The
Pioneers saw one solo block on the morning from Rachel Londot,
while Taryn McCullouch earned a team high three assisted blocks.
Londot closed out the morning with a match high four service
aces.
NOTES:
- After trailing the Pioneers in set two, 13-7, Rollins battled
back and outscored their opponent 18-6 to claim the second set
victory, 25-19, including a match high six point run at the end to
claim the set.
- Set Three was tied at 6-6 before LIU Post earned six straight
to pull ahead 12-6. But the Tars rattled off five of their own to
pull back to within one, 13-12, before both teams traded blows and
Rollins knotted the score at 14-14. The Pioneers went on to take
the third set, 25-18, to take a 2-1 match lead, but Rollins bounced
back and took the fourth set to send it to the decisive fifth
stanza.
- With a 9-7 advantage, Rollins hit their stride and rallied off
five straight points to pull out to a 14-7 lead. The Pioneers
broke the run with a point of their own, but the Tars earned match
point on a kill by McDonough off of an assist by Cason.
- Four players set single match career highs during the match
against the Pioneers:
- Freshman Cassidy
Cason notched a new best digs, earning 11.
- Junior Bri
Civiero tallied a new high in kills with 24.
- Junior Shannon
McDonough earned career highs in kills with 26, and attacks
with 65. McDonough matched her career highs in both Digs (14) and
Service Aces (2), which she also tallied the previous evening
against UC Colorado Springs.
- Junior Rebecca
Wilson earned a new career high in attack attempts in a match,
with four.
- Rollins has now won four-straight matches
- The match saw a total of 22 tie scores, including seven times
in the first and third sets, and eight lead changes, three of which
came in Set One.
- Shannon
McDonough earned her second-straight double-double, the third
of her career, as she tallied 26 kills and 14 digs.
- Rollins out-blocked its opponent, 9-5, led by McDonough and MaryBethany
Vincent with five block-assists apiece. Kianna
Dieudonné had the Tars' lone solo-block on the
morning.

our resilience and grit down the stretch though."
