WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (May 5, 2016) - Rollins
fell behind and could not recover, dropping the series opener
against the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish 18-8. With the loss
Rollins falls to 22-22 on the season, while they sit at 7-14 in
Sunshine State Conference play. The Sailfish now stand at 20-27
overall.
Peter
Nicoletto led the Rollins offense on the evening. The junior
centerfielder went 1-3, blasting his team leading eleventh
homerun. The Fort Lauderdale, Florida native tallied four RBI and
scored a run in the contest. Freshman Isaiah
Russell went 3-4, scoring a run for the Tars.
Brian
Auerbach started the game on the mound for the Tars. The righty
threw 2.1 innings, giving up 6 runs and striking out two. Brandon
Burgess came in to pitch in relief, throwing 1.1 innings,
surrendering three runs, none earned, and also striking out two.
Anthony
Trovato pitched 1.1 innings also, giving up five runs and
recording a strikeout. Jonathan
Rivera closed out the final three frames for the Tars, giving
up four runs and striking out two batters.
The Sailfish got on the board early, and scored in every frame
after the first. Palm Beach Atlantic sent four runners home in the
second, two in the third, three in fourth, and two more in the
fifth; making the score 11-0 before Rollins was able to get on the
board.
Alex
Miller tallied the first Rollins run of the game, scoring on a
Mike
Purcell single in the top of the sixth. Later in the frame
Nicoletto came to the plate with the bases loaded. He sent the
ball over the outfield wall scoring Matt
Hendricks, Purcell and Christopher
Corbett. The Sailfish responded with three runs in the bottom
of the frame, making the score 14-5 after six innings of play.
Palm Beach Atlantic registered one run in the seventh, before
Rollins pushed to make a comeback in the top of the eighth, scoring

Breen single, while Breen and Russell both tallied on a Miller
single. The Sailfish quelled the attack quickly, however, sending
three insurance runs of their own across in the bottom of the
frame.
Rollins could not muster another attack in the ninth, as the
Tars dropped the series opener by a final score of 18-8.
The two teams with conclude their series with a double header on
Friday, May 6. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
