Thomas Earns CoSIDA Academic All-District
Honors
Senior Attacker Marks First Rollins Women's Lacrosse
Player to Ever Earn CoSIDA Academic All-District
Honors
WINTER PARK, Fla. (May 12, 2016) - Senior
attacker Tyler Thomas has been named to the 2015-16 Academic
All-District Women's At-Large Team, as selected by the College
Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) organization
officials announced Thursday.
This marks the first time Thomas has earned CoSIDA Academic
All-District honors in her career, and is the first time a women's
lacrosse player at Rollins has earned a place on the CoSIDA
Academic All-District team. With the selection to the All-District
squad, Thomas will now advance into the pool eligible for
consideration for the CoSIDA Academic All-America team, to be
announced June 8.
Thomas gets the nod after a senior campaign that has seen her
shatter two program records for overall goals and points scored in
a career. The Winter Park, Fla. native has been named Sunshine
State Conference Offensive Player of the Week twice, and earned
First Team All-SSC honors, as well as earned a place on the SSC
All-Tournament Team this season.
Hard working and dedicated both on the field and in the
classroom, Thomas has maintained a 3.69 GPA in her four years, and
was recently awarded the Rollins Fiat Lux Award, which is presented
to outstanding seniors who have made positive and illuminating
contributions to the campus and community. Recipients have a GPA
of 3.0 or higher, and have demonstrated excellence in contributing
to campus life at Rollins via academics, athletics, diversity,
campus and community involvement, as well as leadership.
In addition, Thomas is a seven time member of the Athletic
Director's Honor Roll, as well as a three time member of the SSC
Commissioner's Honor Roll for her efforts in the classroom. Along
with her academic and athletic success this season, Thomas has
earned First Team IWLCA All-Region honors, and was named an IWLCA
All American in 2015. The 2015 SSC Player of the Year and First
Team All-SSC selection was also named to the 2015 IWLCA Academic
Honor Roll for her efforts in her junior campaign.
To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a
student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain
a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached
sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current
institution and be nominated by his/her sports information
representative.
The Academic All-District™ teams are divided into eight
geographic districts across the United States and Canada. This is
the fifth year of the expanded Academic All-America® program as
CoSIDA moved from recognizing a University Division (Division I)
and a College Division (all non-Division I) and has doubled the
number of scholar-athletes honored. The expanded teams include
NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II and NCAA Division III
participants, while the College Division Academic All-America®
Team combines NAIA, Canadian and two-year schools.
