WINTER PARK, Fla. (April 8, 2016) - The
fourth-ranked Rollins women's lacrosse team made easy work of Saint
Leo University on Friday afternoon at Barker Family Stadium and
Cahall-Sandspur Field, defeating the Lions by a score of 14-7. The
win advances the Tars to a record of 12-1 and 2-0 in the Sunshine
State Conference, while the Lions dip to a mark of 2-9 and 0-1 in
the SSC.
Paige
Brock led the way for the Tars, tallying a hat trick and adding
an assist for four points. Grayson
McPhee earned a hat trick of her own, while Kallie
German notched three points with two goals and an assist.

Cury each scored one goal, while Courtney
Gittins notched a goal and an assist. Haley
Brock earned one assist on the afternoon to wrap up the Tars'
scoring efforts.
Malorie
Olin earned the win in goal, earning nine saves as she faced 16
shots and 14 shots on goal in 53 minutes. Ansley
Lowery closed out the game for the final seven minutes, and was
not able to register a save as she allowed two goals.
Saint Leo saw two goals apiece from Abbie Ross and Kelsey Burns,
while Allie Sheftall, Kaylah Walstad, and Caroline Fraser scored
one goal each. In goal, Rebecca Halley played a full 60 minutes,
earning six saves as she faced 26 shots and 20 shots on goal from
Rollins.
Maddie
Hendren led the team in ground balls with three on the day,
while Kris
Coppolino won a game high four draws. Defensively, a total of
eight Tars caused one turnover apiece on the day.
The Tars dictated the pace of play from the onset, and found
themselves holding onto a 9-0 lead with 5:16 to go before the half
before the Lions were able to find the back of the net. At the
break, Rollins found themselves with a commanding 10-2 lead.
Saint Leo opened up the second half with a quick goal 59 seconds
in, but the Tars answered back with two more to pull out to a 12-3
lead with 22:37 to go. The remainder of the second half saw the
Lions outscore the Tars, 4-2, but Rollins had already done their
damage as they closed out the game with a final score of 14-7.
Rollins led the shot count 26-18, as well as the ground ball
battle, 16-14. The Tars held the edge off of the draw, winning
13-of-24, and held the Lions on the ride to just 10 successful
clears in 20 attempts. Both teams converted 4-of-8 free position
shots.
The Rollins women's lacrosse team returns to action on
Wednesday, April 13, when they travel to Melbourne, Fla. to take on
Florida Tech in SSC play. Game time against the Panthers is set
for 7 p.m. Fans who are unable to make it to the game will be able
