WINTER PARK, Fla. (April 22, 2016) - Jule
Kranz comes up big for the Tars as Rollins upsets No. 7 Saint
Leo at home, 3-2. The Tars improve to 34-12-1 on the season and
14-5 in conference while Saint Leo drops to 37-5 and 20-2 in the
SSC.
Saint Leo got on the board first after first basemen Samantha
Ohmie hit a solo homerun to left field in the top of the second.
Moments later, the game went into an hour and forty minute rain and
lightning delay.
When play resumed, the Lions scored one more run after a close
play at the plate to extend their lead to 2-0 in the third. Two
innings later, Rollins had runners on first and second after Hannah
Horwath led off with a walk and Sid
Masso reached on a fielder's choice bunt. Kranz then crushed a
home run over the left field fence to give Rollins a 3-2 lead.
The Lions threatened in the seventh when Danielle Bottley tried
to take third, but Masso threw down to Tiffany
Osmanski to catch the pinch runner stealing and end the game.
After giving up two early runs, Niki
Fogle shut down the Lions as the senior pitcher went seven
innings allowing three hits and two walks while striking out
four.
Rollins returns to action tomorrow as they complete the weekend
series against No. 7 Saint Leo with a doubleheader. Game one is
slated to begin at 1:00 p.m. with a senior day ceremony taking
place in between games. For the latest news, updates, and
