ROLLINS AT A GLANCE: The Tars are coming off
two wins over Division I opponent, the Cornell Big Red. Game one
was a back and forth affair that saw Rollins hold on late to secure
a 6-5 victory in a seven inning ballgame. The Tars jumped on the
Big Red early in game two, holding on to win 13-5. With the
victories, Rollins record improves to 17-13 on the year, while they
sit at 3-6 in Sunshine State Conference play.
After a strong showing against Cornell, Tyler
Fairbanks holds the highest batting average on the team. The
sophomore is hitting .423 on the year, good enough for fourth in
the SSC. Catcher Christopher
Corbett is pacing the conference with 38 RBI on the year, he
also leads the Tars with a .689 slugging percentage.
Brian
Auerbach has earned a 5-2 record on the mound for Rollins,
making 10 starts and throwing 51.2 innings. Senior Matt
Hendricks has made four saves for Rollins in 13 relief
appearances and 22.2 innings pitched.
Jon
Sjogren, Ed.D. enters his 11th season at the helm of the Tars'
baseball program in 2016 and brings with him a career record of
629-556-5 over 25 years into this season.
Sjogren was
hired in July 2005 and became just the fifth head coach in the
Tars' illustrious history. Through ten seasons with Rollins, he
has compiled a record of 270-251-3.
LYNN AT A GLANCE: The No. 17 Fighting Knights
dropped two of three against Florida Tech last time out. Lynn
failed to get the bats going in the opener, falling 13-1. The
second game saw the Panthers run away with 20-5 win. Lynn was able
to capture the finale 4-2, winning on a walk-off homerun. The
losses dropped Lynn out of ranks of the Top 25. The Fighting
Knights currently sit at 18-12 overall, and hold a 7-2 record in
SSC action.
Senior Kyle Schindler leads Lynn with a .380 batting average.
The infielder also has amassed 14 extra base hits on the year.
John Silviano leads the conference with 12 homeruns this season.
The sophomore catcher also has the highest slugging percentage in
the SSC, at .765.
Frank Grandinette has made eight starts for Lynn throwing 52.2
innings. The Land O' Lakes, Florida native has a 4-1 record, and
holds an ERA of 3.59. Payton Smith has made five saves, and earned
a 2-1 record in 13 relief appearances on the season.
Rudy Garbalosa was named skipper of the Lynn University baseball
team in 2000. The program's all-time winningest coach, he guided
the Fighting Knights to their first NCAA Division II National
Championship in 2009. Garbalosa holds an all-time record of
473-329-2.
LAST MEETING: The Tars tied the series with the
Fighting Knights last season. Rollins fell 13-8 in the series
opener, but came back to take the second game from No. 25 Lynn,
14-6. The finale ended 11-11 when the game had to be called.
NEXT UP FOR ROLLINS: Rollins will take another
short break from SSC action to play a midweek contest against Ave
Maria on Thursday, April 7. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.
