WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 3, 2016)
- Rollins opened Baseball week with a resounding
14-2 win over the Saint Anselm Hawks on Thursday afternoon. With
the victory the Tars improve to 10-6 on the year, and sit a t 1-2
in Sunshine State Conference action. The loss moves the Hawks
record to 1-8 on the season.
The Tars offence was led by Grant Ashline. The third baseman
went 3-4, improving his conference leading batting average to
.574. The Naples, Florida native also tallied two RBI and scored
two runs. Nick Breen also had a big game for Rollins. The leadoff
batter went 3-5 with an RBI, three runs scored, and hit his third
homerun of the season.
Brian Auerbach threw seven strong innings for Rollins, giving up
no runs, on only two hits, and striking out seven. Brooks Norton
threw a perfect inning of relief. Anthony Trovato gave up two
runs, only one earned, and struck out one, in one inning of work,
closing out the victory.
Ken Morrisino went 1-4 at the plate for the Hawks, scoring a
run. Autrey Gates registered the loss for Saint Anselm, giving up
five runs, three earned, in six innings of work.
Rollins jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning when Breen
scored on a Mike Dolan ground out, and Mike Purcell scored on an
Ashline double. The Tars doubled their lead in the fourth when a
Skip Kovar single sent home Dolan and Ashline. In the fifth inning
Breen homered to right field, extending the lead to 5-0.
The Tars poured it on late, putting up six runs in seventh and
three in the eighth, clinching the victory. Purcell recorded two
RBI in the seventh while Thomas Boyajian, Ashline, Peter Nicoletto
and Isaiah Russell all drove in a run in the frame. In the eighth
Kovar walked in a run, while Teddy Meissner and Russell each hit a
RBI single.
Saint Anselm put up two runs in the top of the ninth inning, but
it was far too little, and the Tars cruised home with the win.
These two teams will faceoff again on Friday, March 4, to
continue Baseball Week competition. First pitch is scheduled for 1
p.m.
