WINTER PARK, Fla. (March 12, 2016) - Playing
their third game in five days, the Rollins College men's lacrosse
team found themselves unable to hold back a resolute Wingate squad,
falling to the Bulldogs by a final score of 10-4 on Saturday
morning at Barker Family Stadium and Cahall-Sandspur Field.
The loss drops the Tars to a record of 4-3, while the Bulldogs
win their third straight to advance their mark to 3-4.
Adam
Stefanowicz, Morgan
Baker, Jack
Vonarb and Justin
Diamond each put a goal on the scoreboard on the day, with
Rollins scoring three of their four goals in the second
quarter.
In goal, Jake
Hogan played a full 60 minutes, earning seven saves as he faced
41 shots and 17 shots on goal by the Bulldogs.
His counterpart, Jacob Ormerod, earned 12 saves on the
afternoon, including six in the first quarter to keep the Tars off
of the scoreboard.
Wingate was led by Daniel Godwin who scored three goals and two
assists for five points on the afternoon. Alex Llerandi matched
Godwin in goals with three, while Austin Murphy earned four points
with two goals and two assisists. Kenan Reed tallied one goal and
one assist, and Seth Grimwood matched Reed in points with two
assists on the afternoon. Jeremy Sullivan rounded out the goal
count with one of his own.
After 15 minutes of play, the Rollins found themselves trailing
2-0, but Baker opened up the second quarter with a goal in under a
minute to put the Tars on the board. Stefanowicz ripped a shot
from long range to even the game at 2-2 with 10:31 on the clock
before the half, and a goal by Vonarb with 50 seconds on the clock
gave Rollins a 3-2 lead. However, Wingate answered right back with
a goal by Godwin with just five ticks on the clock to set the score
at 3-3 at halftime.
The Bulldogs used a strong third quarter to add on four
unanswered goals, including two from Godwin, leaving the Tars in a
7-3 deficit entering into the final quarter. Despite the Tars'
best efforts on attack, Rollins found themselves outscored by
Wingate in the fourth quarter, 3-1, to close out the game with a
final score of 10-4.
Rollins trailed in the shot count, 41-26, as well as in total
